Domo/monster innocent hats

Hi,

 

As many of you will know I have begun making hats for the innocent smoothies for this years big knit :)

 

Domo is a big part of my life and his latest bit of inspiration rubbed off on some of my hats :P

 

Here they are:

 

 

I made a brown one and a pink one- the traditional colours, but I may start making some random coloured little monsters too!

 

To make a monster/Domo hat it is pretty similar to the basic pattern but you just have to include a red intarsia square and some little teeth and eyes;

 

Pattern-

 

Using 4mm needles and the main colour DK you have chosen for your Domo/monster hat cast on 28sts

 

Knit two rows of k1, p1 ribbing

 

row 3- k 11 sts in brown, swap to red and k 5 sts, then swap back to brown and k the last 12 sts (using intarsia method of bringing different coloured yarns across back of work)

 

row 4- p 11 in brown,  p 5 in red, p12 in brown

 

Repeat rows 3 and 4 two more times :)

 

row 9- k across whole of row in brown

 

row 10- P across whole of row in brown

 

Repeat rows 9 and 10 2 more times

 

row 14- K2tog across (14sts)

 

row 15- P2tog across (7sts)

 

To finish thread yarn end through remaining stitches on needle, draw up and sew down back of hat- darn in and cut all loose ends also. Then using black yarn give your little monster two eyes and stitch/stick on some small strips of white felt which have been cut with pinking shears along one edge.

 

All done

Quirky Update! 8>

Hi guys,

I thought I would do a picture update on Quirky as he is gradually looking less and less deconstructed and more and more like a turkey! Here is him so far:

I love the face, it took me a long time to stitch but it was worth it :) Just all the feathers left to sew on and his little party blower and feet left to knit, not much at all :0)

Im soo happy and excited to have him almost finished! My family are getting excited too :D hehehe!

Another thing that made me happy today is I managed to pick up this cool Monster High Frankie Stein crafty-home economics themed doll :) She comes with a little stitched toy and needle and thread accessory and everything!

Since I got my first Blythe I just keep wanting more and more different special dolls to make outfits for :) And I love her with all her cool crafty stuff. I got her for a really good price in Smyths, only £15.49 because we got a discount!

I'm off now as It's my bedtime, hahaha :-)

Comic Relief: Red Nose Day 2011

Hi!

Today is Red Nose Day :D

This year I wanted to do something to help comic relief as I saw a documentary on the kind of amazing work they do in the slums of Kibera in Africa and many other places.

So..... I grabbed my needles and proceeded to help people in the best way I know how, by knitting!

I got my parents to sponsor me to knit a monster :0)

I started him on wednesday and managed to finish him today

And the best bit is I raised £6 to help people around the world.

Stitching and sewing :)

Hi!

Yesterday me and my family went up to London  and took a walk around Greenwich market. I found a stall which sold some cool crochet accessories and I picked up these to add to my brooch collection :D

When I saw them I knew I had to have them (ALL! ahhaha ). They are soo cool! The lady who makes them has an online shop which sells some of the stuff she has on her stall: http://www.tipawan.co.uk/

Whilst there we also saw another stall which sold loads of different sock monsters/monkeys. My dad thought they were really cool, so.... today I tried out some of my sewing skills (which I don't use very often but hope to more :0) to make him my version of what we saw:

I was quite proud of my creation and my dad loved it! <3 He put it on his special shelf :)

In other news i'm  very close to finishing my mums kindle cozy :) It will definitely be ready for her birthday next Sunday :D ( I'll  post pictures then)

Something else that happened the other day was I got a certificate through the post for being part of the charity chick knit. I was soo excited  because I've never had a certificate for something craft or charity related before!

Button Monsters!

I'm sure many of you have a button box already but if you don't I reccomend you make one :)

Using my recently created one I made these mini button monsters. Take a look inside your button box and get some inspiration to create your own. There quick and allow you to be creative. Make them in whatever colour ,whatever shape and don't forget to give each one a name! :)

(Pink: Tina, Yellow: Lemon, Purple: Sindy, Green: Wood-eye, Black: Stealthy, Blue: Softy)
